I developed an interest in woodworking at school and after leaving in 1979 I became an apprentice carpenter and joiner with an old established building firm who gave me a good grounding not only in joinery but also old fashioned values; pride in my work, being tidy and treating customers with respect. Hopefully some of it has stuck.
After leaving the firm, I worked for various companies doing a variety of jobs including fitting out high class cabin cruisers, making and installing bars and furniture for pubs and clubs.
About thirty years ago I decided to set up on my own, making and fitting general joinery work and the odd bit of furniture before concentrating solely in the workshop.
Working by myself gives me the opportunity to have a wide scope of work, from general joinery like doors and windows, to the more craft based side of the job like furniture, woodturning and carving. I see myself as the old fashioned village joiner who could supply everything from cradle to grave; the cot for a baby, toys for the children, table and chairs to eat from, a bed to sleep in and doors and windows to keep out the cold. Maybe even the coffin to bury you in ( haven't had any of those to make! )
